What is Chinese honey chicken
Chinese honey chicken is a fried chicken tossed with honey and some Asia sauces like red chilly sauce, schezwan sauce and tomato sauce.
Finger size thin chicken strips are coated with Corn flour and all purpose flour batter with some seasoning. These are then deep fried till crisp golden and stir fry with honey and other sauces
This is one the popular Indo chinese recipe and popular in other part of southeast Asia.
You can easily make this in your kitchen and surprise your family members.

It has some varieties of preparation depending on the uses of sauces. But the best one is using the Honey to make crispy honey chicken.
Steps to make honey Chicken Chinese

Wash and clean the Chicken Breasts and cut into thin finger size strips.
In a mixing bowl add corn flour and all purpose flour with some water to make a thick lumps free batter. Add 1/2 teaspoon Red chilly paste to the batter and mix well.
This will give nice glossy red colour to the chicken pieces. You can use Cayenne pepper if you don't have red chilly paste.
Frying
Now add the finger size chicken pieces in the batter and coat well from all sides.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat flame. When the oil become hot lower the flame to low and deep fry the chicken pieces till crisp golden. Remove them on kitchen towel or tissue paper to absorb any excess oil. Keep them aside to use later.

Heat 2 teaspoon oil in a wok or a non stick pan, add chopped garlic, onions and ginger and sauteed for 1 minutes in high flame or till they become light brown.
Slow the flame, add Chilly Sauce, Tomato Sauce, remaining Chilly Paste and schezwan Sauce. And give a nice mix. Add white pepper powder, salt and pinch of Sugar.
Add the fried Chicken fingers to the above sauce mixture. Give everything a nice mix so that the sauces coat the chicken pieces from all sides. Add half of the spring onions and food wine( rice vinegar).
Stir fry them for a minute to dry. Pour honey and give a final mix. Switch off the flame and remove them in a plate.
Garnish with the remaining spring onions and serve hot.

Ingredients
- 1 boneless chicken breasts
- 2 teaspoon chopped onions
- 1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon chopped ginger
- 2 teaspoon chopped spring onion
- 2 teaspoon corn flour ( corn starch)
- 1 teaspoon All purpose flour ( Maida)
- 2 teaspoon Honey
- 1/2 teaspoon tomato ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilly sauce.
- 1 teaspoon red chilly paste
- 1/2 teaspoon dark sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon food wine ( rice vinegar)
- Salt as per taste.
- Small of pinch sugar
- Cooking oil for frying
How to make the recipe
- Wash the chicken breast and slice into two parts length wise. Then cut them into finger size pieces.
- In a mixing bowl add corn flour, all purpose flour, red chilly paste and salt. Make a batter by adding little water.
- Mix the chicken fingers into the batter nicely to coat evenly from all sides.
- Deep fry them till crisp golden. Remove on a absorbent paper to absorb excess oil.
Making the crispy honey chicken
- Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a chinese wok or a pan and fry the chopped garlic and ginger till light brown.
- Add the chopped onions and fry till translucent.
- Add red chilly paste, red chilly sauce, dark soya sauce, tomato sauce and vinegar.
- Pour little water and cook them for a while.
- Now add salt, white pepper powder and a small pinch of sugar. Stir and simmer.
- Pour 2 - 3 teaspoon corn flour slurry and mix well. Simmer further till the sauce thickens.
- Add the fried chicken fingers and coat well by giving a nice stir.
- Pour honey and mix. Sprinkle some chopped spring onions.
- Remove and serve hot.
